My Journey
Hi there, I’m Briget. To honestly know me, you must understand where I'm from. Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, I fondly recall leather bombers, bamboo earrings, and the magnificent sounds of Africa Bambaataa, SugarHill Gang, and Boogie Down Production.
In the 80s, when the emergence of Hip Hop took my borough by storm, equally as vivid in my memory is how drugs and related crimes swept in like a tidal wave. With the amount of devastation surrounding me, it was apparent to me that
Despite the great need for us to receive mental health care the most, we were least likely to receive it.
That was unacceptable to me! Today, I am a therapist who specializes in providing therapy to individuals who identify as Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Color(BIPOC). As a BIPOC therapist, I believe that those who have been oppressed can provide the most empathetic and effective care to individuals who have experienced oppression. I understand what it feels like to face racism and intergenerational trauma.
Real, recognize real. I strive to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for individuals, couples, and groups to heal and grow. My journey to reach this point has been far from straightforward, with many ups and downs. Maybe you can relate to that.
If you choose to work with me, I promise to show up authentically in our space as my true self, hoping to meet yours. Together, we will unlock your full potential and discover your "Imara."
